With campus locations spread throughout the city, Houston Community College has given an educational opportunity to over a million students from all over the world since it's 1971 inception. Specializing not only in educational but also job training programs HCC has quickly become a leading institution with job placement in the Houston area. Besides their main Central campus located in Downtown Houston, HCC also has two campus locations on the south side of the city as well as two on the north side giving every person a fair opportunity for an education.
Houston Community College offers terminal degrees and certificates in more the 70 fields of work and students can also take academic courses that will transfer to four-year institutions. HCC features five Academic Disciplines for students to choose from such as: Fine Arts and Humanities, Adult Basic Education, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Math and Natural Sciences and Developmental Studies. To add to their academic disciplines HCC also offers many Career and Technical Education Programs such as: Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Health & Medical Sciences, Architecture & Construction, Arts, AV Technology & Communications and Communication & Media Arts just to name a few.
For the 2008-2009 school year in-district students will pay $672 a semester for 12 school hours with out-of-district students paying $1,320 a semester for the same. Houston Community College does not provide housing, but with campus sites all over the city of Houston students have a wide array of options when it comes to finding the right apartment that will suit them. Students of HCC enjoy the personal freedom and private space when living in their own apartment. Mel Gibson said it best in the movie Braveheart when asking "What would you do without freedom", I hear you Mel. Still others find students to roommate with satisfying their urge to meet new friends and create their own college style experience.
